Privacy Policy
Knowvio — AI Shopping & Product Intelligence
Effective date: 28 July 2026 · Last updated: 30 July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information the Knowvio mobile application
("Knowvio", "the app", "we", "us") collects, why we collect it, who it is shared
with, and the choices you have. It applies to the Knowvio Android application
published under the package name com.knowvio.app.
AI can make mistakes. It can misread a label, miss an ingredient, or return an inaccurate or incomplete result. Always check the actual product packaging, and speak to a doctor, pharmacist, or allergist before making any health, dietary, or medical decision. Knowvio is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Account information — your name, email address, and profile photo. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and Google profile photo from Google. We never receive your Google password.
- Health and lifestyle information — health goals, dietary preferences, allergies, the people you shop for, and ingredients you want to avoid. You provide these during setup and can edit them at any time. We treat this as sensitive information.
- Product photos — when you scan a product, the front-of-package photo is sent to our analysis service and on to OpenAI to generate the analysis. We do not store it unless you save the product, in which case it is kept in your own private storage area. The ingredients-label photo never leaves your device — only the text read from it on your device is sent.
Information generated as you use Knowvio
- Ingredient text — text read from your ingredients photo. This text recognition runs on your device; the photo is not uploaded for this step.
- Scan history — which products you have scanned and when.
- Scan counts — how many scans you make each day, used only to enforce the daily analysis limit and prevent abuse of the service.
- Saved items — products and product comparisons you explicitly save.
- Diagnostic and integrity data — basic technical data used to verify requests come from a genuine, unmodified copy of the app and to keep the service reliable.
We do not collect your precise location, contacts, microphone audio, SMS, or call logs. We do not use advertising identifiers and we do not show ads.
2. How We Use Your Information
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Product photo & ingredient text | To generate the AI analysis of the product you scanned |
| Health goals, diet, allergies, ingredients to avoid | To personalise insights and highlight things relevant to you |
| Name, email, profile photo | To create and secure your account and show who is signed in |
| Scan history & saved items | To show your Recent Scans, Saved Products, History, and Insights |
| Daily scan count | To enforce the daily analysis limit and prevent abuse |
| Integrity/diagnostic data | To prevent abuse of the analysis service and keep the app working |
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your personal information for advertising or profiling unrelated to the app's function.
3. A Shared Product Analysis Cache
So that the same product is not analysed repeatedly, the resulting analysis of a product's ingredients may be stored and reused when another user scans the same product. This shared record contains only the product analysis itself, derived from the ingredient list.
It does not contain your identity, your account details, your photos, your health information, or any link back to you. Your account, profile, scan history, and saved items are private to you and are never visible to other users.
4. Who We Share Information With
We share information only with the service providers needed to operate Knowvio:
- Google Firebase (Google LLC / Google Ireland Ltd) — authentication, database, file storage, backend hosting, and app integrity verification. See Google's Firebase Privacy and Security.
- OpenAI (OpenAI, L.L.C.) — receives the product photo and the ingredient text you submit, in order to generate the analysis. See OpenAI's Privacy Policy. Content submitted through OpenAI's API is not used to train their models by default.
- Google Sign-In — only if you choose to sign in with Google rather than email and password.
We may also disclose information where required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or ourselves.
5. Where Your Data Is Stored, and For How Long
Your data is stored on Google Firebase infrastructure and is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest by the platform. Data may be processed on servers outside your country, including in the United States and the European Union.
We keep your account information, personalisation details, scan history, and saved items for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, this data is deleted as described below. Shared product analyses (Section 3) contain no personal data and may be retained after account deletion.
6. Deleting Your Account and Data
You can delete your Knowvio account and its associated personal data at any time, directly in the app.
- In the app — go to Profile → Delete Account and confirm. Your account and data are deleted immediately and permanently. This cannot be undone.
- By email — if you can no longer sign in, email vkvinnovations@gmail.com from the address registered to your Knowvio account, with the subject line "Delete my account". We will verify the request and complete the deletion within 30 days.
Either route removes your account, profile and photo, health and personalisation details, scan history, saved items, and uploaded images. Anonymous product analyses that contain no personal information (Section 3) are retained, as they cannot be linked back to you.
You can also review and edit your personalisation details at any time from Profile → Edit Profile inside the app.
7. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, restrict processing of, or delete your personal information, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at vkvinnovations@gmail.com. We will respond within the period required by applicable law.
8. Security
Access to your data is restricted by server-side security rules so that only your signed-in account can read or write your own profile, scan history, and saved items. Requests to our analysis service are verified to confirm they come from a genuine copy of the app. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
9. Children's Privacy
Knowvio is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it. Note that the app allows adults to record who they shop for, which may include children; this is a preference on the adult's own account and is not a profile of a child.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app develops. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be communicated in the app. Continuing to use Knowvio after an update means you accept the revised policy.
